Instrumental Tuition
Greg has been teaching piano, guitar and bass guitar for over 20 years and currently teaches primarily at Bruern Abbey Prep School & Senior School, where he has particular experience supporting pupils with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and ASD.
His patient and adaptable approach puts each pupil’s enjoyment, confidence and motivation at the heart of their musical journey. Whether they want to work towards grades, learn their favourite songs, or simply develop their skills for the enjoyment of playing, Greg adapts his teaching to suit their individual interests and goals. He believes every student should be encouraged to become the musician they want to be, developing their skills at their own pace while discovering a genuine love of music that can stay with them for life.

In addition to studying classical piano as part of his music degree at York University, Greg's ability to learn music by ear makes him a versatile pianist and music tutor. As a former transcriptionist and arranger for Yousician, Greg has an deep understanding of the role of technology in music tuition and happily incorporates interactive tech to support pupils' music reading ability in the early stages of learning.
On the guitar, Greg is comfortable teaching electric and acoustic guitar styles and will happily teach pupils anything they want to learn as long as he can find audio of the song to quickly transcribe from YouTube or Spotify! His approach focusses on building the fundamental building blocks of good technique by using well known, simple songs to help pupils get to grips with the instrument.

Finally, Bruern alumni might recognise Greg as the bassist in Mr Francis's band, Counterfeit Hit! Whilst a slightly challenging instrument for those with smaller younger hands initially, the bass is a deeply satisfying instrument to play once you can lock into a good groove. Bass tuition is typically undersubscribed, but plenty of bands need a bass player, so not one to overlook!
